SHOPIFY DEVELOPMENT

A Shopify store built around your product structure, not around the theme's defaults

High-volume US brands on Shopify Plus are not limited by the platform. They are limited by the decisions made during the initial build: product pages that do not carry specification depth, collection filtering that does not reflect the catalogue, and a checkout that is still the default configuration despite Shopify Plus making it fully extensible. We build the Shopify store your volume and your product require, from custom Liquid architecture through checkout UI extensions and Klaviyo, Gorgias, and Yotpo integration done without app stack bloat.

Shopify Plus checkout UI extensions for custom checkout experiences · Klaviyo, Gorgias, and Yotpo integration without app stack conflicts · Custom Liquid theme development with no OS 2.0 drag-and-drop limitations · Metafield architecture for complex US product catalogues
This is for you if

This engagement is suited to three types of US brand operators.

You are on Shopify Plus and have been since you hit the volume threshold. But your checkout is still the default Shopify checkout. You are not running checkout UI extensions. You are not running custom upsell logic at checkout. You are not customising the thank you page. Shopify Plus gives you the ability to build a checkout experience that reflects your brand and your conversion strategy. You have been paying for that capability without using it.

Your store generates significant revenue. But the product pages are still on a theme template that cannot display the product specification your catalogue requires. Your Klaviyo flows are sending generic email because the product data in Shopify is not structured well enough to personalise on. Your collection pages do not filter usefully for a catalogue of 500 SKUs. The store is working despite its structure, not because of it.

You are moving from WooCommerce, BigCommerce, or a custom platform to Shopify Plus, or you are relaunching a Shopify store that was built quickly and needs to be rebuilt correctly. You need a developer who understands Shopify Plus architecture, checkout extensibility, and complex app integration, not a developer who learned Shopify through page builder tools.

What's broken

Four structural problems appear in almost every Shopify Plus store we audit in the US.

Theme defaults are limiting your product page

The theme your store launched on was not designed for your catalogue. It was designed for a generic catalogue. Product pages display what the theme allows, not what the product requires. For a US brand in apparel, supplements, home goods, or beauty, the product page is the primary conversion surface. A product page that cannot display the full specification, the accurate variant logic, or the trust signals specific to your category is losing conversions that a well-built page would capture.

Collection filtering does not reflect the catalogue

A catalogue of 300 or 500 SKUs requires filtering that reflects how customers actually navigate to a purchase decision. Tag-based filtering applied inconsistently over the life of the store does not do this. Metafield-based filtering, built from a clean product taxonomy, allows customers to filter by the attributes that drive decisions in your category. Without it, collection pages are sorted lists that high-intent customers abandon because they cannot find what they are looking for efficiently.

Shopify Plus checkout extensibility is unused

Checkout UI extensions allow you to modify the checkout page layout, add custom content, insert upsell offers, display loyalty information, and customise the post-purchase experience. Most Shopify Plus stores in the US are running a default checkout with none of these configured. The checkout is the highest-converting surface in the store. Leaving it in its default configuration on a Shopify Plus plan is a development debt with a direct revenue cost.

Klaviyo, Gorgias, and Yotpo are integrated but not connected to structured product data

These three platforms are standard in the US Shopify Plus stack. They are most effective when they pull from structured product data in Shopify: metafields for personalisation, product type for segmentation, and review data connected to the correct product template. When the Shopify product data is unstructured, Klaviyo personalisation is limited, Gorgias ticket data is disconnected from product attributes, and Yotpo reviews are attached to the wrong product template. The integration is installed but not effective.

What we engineer

Seven development workstreams, delivered as a complete project.

Theme Specification

A written theme specification is produced before development begins: page types, component inventory, data model, metafield schema, checkout extension requirements, and integration specifications. The document is reviewed and approved before any code is written. It is delivered at handover as the authoritative reference for the codebase.

Custom Liquid Theme Development

We develop the theme in Liquid against the specification. Every section, template, and snippet is purpose-built. We do not use OS 2.0 drag-and-drop for structural work. The result is a clean, performant codebase without the block-editor constraints that limit OS 2.0 themes when product page complexity increases. Theme Check compliance is enforced throughout.

Metafield Schema and Product Architecture

We design the metafield namespace for your catalogue: product specifications, certifications, material and ingredient data, compatibility notes, variant display logic, and any field required for accurate representation. Klaviyo personalisation, Yotpo review attribution, and Gorgias ticket context all improve when product data in Shopify is structured correctly.

Collection Page Filtering

We build collection filtering from the metafield taxonomy. For a US apparel brand, filters map to size range, material, fit, and price. For a supplement brand, filters map to health goal, form factor, and certification. Filters are accurate and fast because they come from structured metafields, not from product tags.

Product Page Templates

Each product type gets a template built for its data structure and purchase logic. A supplement product page displays serving size, certifications, ingredient sourcing, and a comparison table. An apparel product page displays a size guide, material composition, and fit notes. Templates are built per product type, not shared across incompatible data structures.

Shopify Plus Checkout UI Extensions

We develop checkout UI extensions for the checkout page, post-purchase page, and thank you page. Extensions include: custom upsell offers at checkout, loyalty program balance display, trust badge placement, custom form fields, and post-purchase survey or upsell logic. These are Shopify Plus capabilities that require development work to configure. They are not available on standard Shopify plans.

Klaviyo, Gorgias, and Yotpo Integration and App Audit

We integrate Klaviyo with the metafield schema so that flows and segments can personalise on structured product attributes. We configure Gorgias with product type and order data for accurate ticket routing. We connect Yotpo reviews to the correct product templates and configure review request flows. We audit the full app stack, remove redundancies, and document the integration architecture.

What changes

Four measurable shifts after a proper Shopify Plus build.

Before
After
Before The theme your store launched on was not designed for your catalogue.
After A product page built for your catalogue's data model and your customer's decision process converts better than a product page built for a generic theme's default layout. At high traffic volumes, the conversion rate improvement on the product page is the highest-value outcome in the entire project.
Before A catalogue of 300 or 500 SKUs requires filtering that reflects how customers actually navigate to a purchase decision.
After Metafield-based filtering means customers with specific purchase intent can find the right product in a catalogue of 500 SKUs as efficiently as in a catalogue of 50. Session depth increases. Exit rate on collection pages falls. High-intent customers who can navigate stay and buy.
Before Checkout UI extensions allow you to modify the checkout page layout, add custom content, insert upsell offers, display loyalty information, and customise the post-purchase experience. Most Shopify Plus stores in the US are running a default checkout with none of these configured. The checkout is the highest-converting surface in the store. Leaving it in its default configuration on a Shopify Plus plan is a development debt with a direct revenue cost.
After Checkout UI extensions add upsell logic, loyalty display, and trust signals at the highest-intent moment in the customer journey. Post-purchase extensions capture survey data and offer relevant follow-on purchases. The checkout stops being the default end of the funnel and becomes a managed conversion and retention surface.
Before These three platforms are standard in the US Shopify Plus stack.
After When metafields are correctly defined, Klaviyo flows can segment and personalise on product attributes, not just on product title and price. Email performance improves because the content is relevant. The investment in Klaviyo returns more when the data feeding it is structured correctly.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions about Shopify Development

What can Shopify Plus checkout UI extensions actually do?

Checkout UI extensions allow you to add custom components to the checkout, post-purchase, and thank you pages: upsell offers, loyalty balance display, custom form fields, trust badges, progress bars toward free shipping, and post-purchase survey or offer widgets. They run as sandboxed extensions within Shopify's checkout infrastructure and do not require Checkout.liquid, which Shopify deprecated. They are available only on Shopify Plus plans.

How does structured metafield data improve Klaviyo performance?

Klaviyo pulls product data from Shopify when building flows and segments. If product attributes are stored in the description as unstructured HTML, Klaviyo can only personalise on product title, price, and collection. When product attributes are stored in typed metafields, Klaviyo flows can segment on ingredient, certification, size range, or any other attribute. Personalised email content based on actual product attributes performs better than generic product title personalisation.

Can you work with our existing app stack rather than replacing it?

We audit the existing app stack and make recommendations based on function, overlap, and performance impact. In most cases, some apps are replaced with native Shopify functionality or custom Liquid code that performs the same job without the JavaScript overhead. Some apps remain because they perform a function that is not worth rebuilding. The audit report gives you a specific recommendation for each app with a rationale.

How long does a Shopify Plus build take for a high-volume US brand?

A complete build for a Shopify Plus store with custom checkout extensions, Klaviyo integration, metafield architecture, and collection filtering typically takes eight to ten weeks from specification approval to launch. Larger catalogues, additional integrations, or Shopify Markets setup for international selling may extend the timeline. The diagnostic produces a timeline based on your specific scope.

What happens to our existing Shopify data during a rebuild?

Product data, customer data, order history, and metafields are preserved in Shopify's database throughout a theme rebuild. A theme rebuild replaces the frontend code, not the data. We migrate any existing metafield data to the new schema where applicable and validate data integrity before launch. Custom development does not require a store migration.

Start with a diagnostic, not a proposal

Most Shopify Plus stores in the US are underperforming relative to their traffic volume because the store was built for speed to launch, not for product architecture. We start every engagement with a written diagnostic: a review of your theme code, your metafield structure, your checkout configuration, and your integration data quality. You leave the diagnostic with a specific account of what is limiting performance and a scoped proposal for addressing it. A Shopify Plus store at scale needs product pages that convert at the rate the traffic justifies, collection filtering that retains high-intent customers, a checkout that uses its extensibility, and a Klaviyo integration that works from structured data. Getting all four right is a development project with a specification, not a theme swap.
