SHOPIFY DEVELOPMENT

A Shopify store built around your product structure, not around the theme's defaults

The UAE retail market operates in Arabic and English, in AED and USD and SAR, and on mobile devices at a rate that makes desktop-first development a mistake from day one. A Shopify theme from the Theme Store does not handle bidirectional text correctly, does not reflect multi-currency pricing accurately at checkout, and does not present a product catalogue with the depth that UAE customers expect from brands they trust. We build Shopify stores from the product architecture outward, with native RTL support in Liquid and Shopify Markets configured for the GCC region.

This is for you if

This engagement is suited to three types of store owners in the UAE.

You sell through a physical store, through Instagram, or through a marketplace, and you are ready to build a direct-to-consumer channel that operates correctly in Arabic and English. You want a store that serves both audiences without switching platforms, handles AED and USD at checkout, and presents your product catalogue with the accuracy and depth your brand requires.

Your store is live. It generates some traffic and some revenue, but the conversion rate is poor. The Arabic version of the store has layout issues because the theme was not built for RTL. The collection pages do not filter usefully. The product pages do not carry the specification detail that UAE customers look for before purchasing. You need the store rebuilt from a specification, not patched.

You have an existing Shopify store in English and you are expanding into the UAE and the broader GCC region. You need the store to operate correctly in Arabic, display AED and SAR pricing, handle UAE-based payment methods, and present the brand at the standard your existing markets expect. This is a Shopify Markets and Liquid internationalisation project.

What's broken

Four structural problems appear in almost every Shopify store we audit in the UAE.

The Arabic version of the store is broken by the theme

Most Shopify themes are built for LTR languages. Adding Arabic via a translation app or Shopify's native translation feature on an LTR theme produces layout failures: text that overflows containers, icons that do not flip, navigation that breaks, and a product page that looks like a font test rather than a retail experience. RTL support must be built into the Liquid and CSS architecture, not applied on top of an LTR theme.

Multi-currency checkout is misconfigured

Displaying AED on the product page and then processing in USD at checkout is not a currency strategy. It creates distrust and cart abandonment. Shopify Markets handles multi-currency natively, with AED, USD, and SAR as separate market configurations with their own pricing rules, shipping zones, and checkout flows. Doing this correctly requires Shopify development work, not a currency conversion app.

Product pages do not carry the detail UAE customers expect

UAE customers, particularly in fashion, beauty, electronics, and home goods, evaluate products based on specification detail, certifications, origin, and material information. A product page that displays a photo and a price does not give a UAE customer enough to decide. Product pages built on theme defaults display what the theme allows. Product pages built on metafields display what the product requires.

The store is not built for mobile-first UAE browsing

More than 80% of UAE e-commerce traffic comes from mobile devices. A store with a 4-second LCP, layout shifts on scroll, and tap targets that do not meet minimum sizing guidelines will lose most of its traffic before the customer reaches the product page. Performance optimisation for the UAE market means LCP under 2.5 seconds on a mobile connection, not a desktop Lighthouse score.

What we engineer

Seven development workstreams, delivered as a complete project.

Theme Specification

We produce a written theme specification before any development begins: page types, component inventory, data model, metafield schema, RTL and LTR layout requirements, and interaction specifications. The document is reviewed and approved before code is written and delivered at project handover.

Custom Liquid Theme Development with RTL Support

We develop the theme in Liquid with bidirectional text support built into the architecture. RTL layout is not a CSS hack applied to an LTR theme. It is a directional logic built into every section and template, tested in Arabic on real device viewports throughout development. LTR and RTL render correctly from the same Liquid codebase.

Metafield Schema and Product Architecture

We design the metafield namespace for your catalogue before building it: product specifications, certifications, material attributes, origin data, size logic, and any field required for accurate product representation. Product pages pull from structured metafields, not from freeform description HTML.

Collection Page Filtering

We build collection filtering from the metafield taxonomy. For a UAE fashion or beauty brand, filters map to brand, material, size range, price tier, or product type. For a home goods store, filters map to dimensions, material, and colour family. Filters are accurate because they come from structured data, not from tags.

Product Page Templates

Each product type in the catalogue gets a template built for its specific data and purchase logic. A fragrance product page displays fragrance family, projection, longevity, and concentration. An electronics product page displays specifications, compatibility, and warranty terms. Templates are not shared across incompatible product types.

Shopify Markets Setup for GCC Multi-Currency

We configure Shopify Markets for AED, USD, and SAR: separate market definitions, pricing rules, shipping zone configuration, checkout localisation, and payment method configuration per market. Each currency market processes at checkout in the correct currency. This replaces frontend currency conversion apps that create checkout mismatches.

App Integration Audit, Arabic Translation, and Performance Optimisation

We audit the app stack and remove redundancies. We configure Shopify's native translation and localisation for Arabic content. We run Lighthouse benchmarks on mobile and optimise LCP, CLS, and INP for the UAE mobile browsing context.

What changes

Four measurable shifts after a proper Shopify build for the UAE market.

Before
After
Before Most Shopify themes are built for LTR languages.
After RTL layout built into the Liquid architecture means Arabic renders correctly across every page type, on every device. Arabic-speaking customers encounter a store that respects their language, not a store that has had Arabic text inserted into an LTR template.
Before Displaying AED on the product page and then processing in USD at checkout is not a currency strategy. It creates distrust and cart abandonment. Shopify Markets handles multi-currency natively, with AED, USD, and SAR as separate market configurations with their own pricing rules, shipping zones, and checkout flows. Doing this correctly requires Shopify development work, not a currency conversion app.
After Customers who see AED on the product page and AED in the checkout do not encounter a currency mismatch. GCC customers in AED, USD, and SAR each see a checkout configured for their market. Cart abandonment at the currency or payment step falls.
Before UAE customers, particularly in fashion, beauty, electronics, and home goods, evaluate products based on specification detail, certifications, origin, and material information. A product page that displays a photo and a price does not give a UAE customer enough to decide. Product pages built on theme defaults display what the theme allows. Product pages built on metafields display what the product requires.
After Metafield-based product pages display the specification depth UAE customers expect. Inquiry volume via WhatsApp or DM for basic product questions drops. Conversion rate on product pages improves. The store communicates the quality of the product, not just the price.
Before More than 80% of UAE e-commerce traffic comes from mobile devices.
After LCP under 2.5 seconds, no layout shifts, correct tap target sizing. A store optimised for UAE mobile browsing retains the traffic that a slow store loses before the customer reaches the product page. Mobile conversion rate becomes a number worth improving, rather than a number worth ignoring.
How it works

  1. 01

    Shopify Diagnostic

    Week 1

We audit your existing store or your brief. We review the theme code for RTL compliance, the current currency configuration, the app stack, the metafield usage, and the mobile performance benchmarks. You receive a written diagnostic with specific findings and a proposed project scope.

  2. 02

    Specification and Architecture

    Weeks 1-2

We produce the theme specification with RTL and LTR layout requirements, Shopify Markets configuration plan, metafield schema, and product template requirements. You review and approve the specification before development begins.

  3. 03

    Development and Integration

    Weeks 3-7

Custom Liquid development in stages: data model and metafields, then templates with RTL and LTR support, then collection filtering, then Shopify Markets configuration, then app integration and mobile performance optimisation. You review each stage.

  4. 04

    QA, Handover, and Training

    Week 8

QA across devices and browsers in both Arabic and English. RTL layout validation on real mobile viewports. Lighthouse benchmark on mobile. Codebase and documentation delivered. Training session covering product management, Arabic content updates, and metafield maintenance.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions about Shopify Development

Does Shopify support Arabic natively?

Shopify supports Arabic as a store language through its native translation system and right-to-left text rendering. What Shopify does not do automatically is reformat an LTR theme's layout for RTL display. Directional layout, icon mirroring, and bidirectional spacing must be built into the Liquid and CSS architecture of the theme. This is a development task, not a settings change.

How does Shopify Markets handle AED, USD, and SAR pricing?

Shopify Markets allows you to define separate markets for each currency region. Each market can have independent pricing rules, so AED and USD pricing can be set independently rather than converted from a base currency. Checkout processes in the customer's market currency. Shipping zones and payment methods are configured per market. This is different from a currency conversion app, which displays converted prices on the frontend but processes in the store's base currency.

Can you integrate UAE-specific payment methods?

Shopify supports a range of payment gateways available in the UAE, including Tabby, Tamara, and local card processors. Integration requires both app installation and checkout configuration. For Shopify Plus stores, checkout UI extensions allow custom positioning and messaging for local payment options. We assess payment method requirements during the diagnostic and configure accordingly.

How long does a UAE Shopify build take?

A complete build from specification to launch takes six to eight weeks. Stores requiring full Arabic and English development, Shopify Markets for multiple GCC currencies, and custom product page templates for multiple product types may take ten to twelve weeks. The diagnostic produces a timeline based on your specific scope.

What does the project include for Arabic content management?

We configure the store for Arabic content management through Shopify's native translation system, which allows your team to manage Arabic and English product content from the Shopify admin. We document the metafield structure so your team can add and update Arabic product attributes without a developer. We also deliver a training session covering Arabic content workflow in Shopify.

Start with a diagnostic, not a proposal

Most Shopify projects in the UAE underperform because they begin with a theme installation rather than a product architecture. We start every engagement with a written diagnostic: a review of your store or brief, an RTL and multi-currency assessment, and a scoped proposal with a clear timeline. You leave the diagnostic knowing exactly what needs to be built, what the scope covers, and what the expected outcome is. A store operating in the UAE market needs Arabic that renders correctly, a checkout that works in AED, and product pages that carry the depth UAE customers expect before they decide to purchase. None of that comes from a theme selection. All of it comes from development done against a specification.
