What exactly is an AEO Citation Audit?
An AEO Citation Audit is a structured, URL-level analysis of how frequently your website pages are cited in AI-generated answers across five major AI engines, benchmarked against three competitors. It is not a general assessment of AI trends or a high-level visibility score — it is a page-by-page examination that produces a citation score for every URL tested, a competitor comparison matrix, and a prioritised roadmap for improving citation performance. The output is documented data, not recommendations based on assumptions.
How is this different from an AI Visibility Audit?
The AI Visibility Audit assesses your overall presence and authority signals across AI systems — brand recognition, entity associations, structured data, and domain-level citation patterns. The AEO Citation Audit goes one level deeper: it operates at the individual page level, testing specific URLs against a specific query set to determine which pages earn citations and which do not. The two audits complement each other. If you have not had an AI Visibility Audit, that is typically the recommended starting point. If you have completed one and want page-level citation data, the AEO Citation Audit is the logical next step.
What is a page citation score and how is it calculated?
A page citation score is the number of times a specific URL on your site was cited across the full query set and across all five AI engines tested, expressed as a percentage of the maximum possible citations for that URL. A page that was cited in 40 of 100 queries across one engine has a different score from a page cited in 10 queries across four engines — the scoring methodology accounts for both breadth and depth of citation. The score is not a proxy metric. It is derived from direct testing, query by query, engine by engine.
How long does the audit take?
The standard AEO Citation Audit takes ten to fourteen business days from the date the query set is approved. The query set is built in the first three days and submitted for your review before testing begins. Citation testing and competitor mapping take a further five to seven days. Gap analysis, roadmap preparation, and executive summary writing are completed in the final two to three days. Expedited delivery in seven business days is available for an additional fee.
What does the audit cost?
The AEO Citation Audit is priced from £2,400 for sites with up to 200 tested URLs. Sites with larger URL sets or requiring more than three competitor domains are quoted individually. All pricing is fixed-fee with no variable components — the quoted figure is the total cost. Payment is split fifty per cent at engagement and fifty per cent on delivery of the final roadmap.
What happens after the audit is delivered?
The audit delivers a prioritised roadmap — the work of acting on it is separate. Many clients engage Ignited Nepal for a content optimisation retainer to work through the roadmap systematically, which includes page rewrites, structural fixes, and new content production. Others take the roadmap to their in-house team or existing content partners. Either approach works. We offer a thirty-day post-delivery review call at no charge to discuss progress against the roadmap and answer questions that arise during implementation.
