FEED & MERCHANT CENTRE

Canadian Google Merchant Centre needs CAD pricing, French-language feeds for Quebec, and a Walmart Canada feed setup that most AU/US brand expansion checklists miss

Expanding a product feed into Canada is not a matter of pointing an existing AU or US feed at Canadian traffic. Canadian Shopping requires CAD pricing. Quebec generates a significant volume of French-language Shopping queries that an English-only feed does not reach. Canadian GST and HST rates vary by province, creating a pricing display requirement that a single national price does not satisfy uniformly. And Walmart Canada Marketplace is a growing product discovery channel with a feed specification that differs from Google's.

This is for you if

Who This Is For

Brands entering Canada through a copy of their AU or US feed are setting up a feed that will either be ineligible for Canadian Shopping placements or will underperform against Canadian-native competitors who have built correctly for the market.

Ignited Nepal builds and manages Google Merchant Centre feeds and marketplace feeds for brands expanding into Canada.

What's broken

Problems We Solve

Feed using USD pricing

Google Merchant Centre requires that the price attribute in the feed matches the currency of the target market. Canadian Shopping campaigns require CAD pricing. A feed with USD pricing is ineligible for Canadian-targeted Shopping placements. Shopify stores using multi-currency pricing do not automatically generate a CAD feed: the Shopify Google & YouTube channel app generates a feed in the store's default currency unless explicitly configured for a secondary market. Brands using Shopify Markets to serve CAD prices to Canadian buyers need a separate feed that exports the CAD price, not the default store currency price.

No French-language product feed for Quebec

Google Shopping in Quebec generates significant query volume in French. A buyer searching "chaussures de course pour femmes" on Google Quebec will not be served an English-language Shopping ad title of "Women's Running Shoes" with the same relevance as a French-language title. An English-only Shopping feed misses all French-language Shopping queries from Quebec. A supplemental feed with French-language product titles, descriptions, and product type taxonomy is required to be eligible for French-language Shopping placements in Quebec. The supplemental feed overrides the English titles for Canadian French locale targeting without requiring a separate primary feed rebuild.

Canadian GST/HST not handled correctly in feed price

Canada has a federal GST (5%) that applies nationally and provincial HST rates that vary: Ontario is 13%, Nova Scotia is 15%, and British Columbia uses a separate PST. A single national product price in the feed does not reflect the tax-inclusive price for buyers in every province. Unlike the UK, where a single VAT rate means a single price is correct for all buyers, Canada's multi-rate structure means that a tax-inclusive price for Ontario (13% HST) is different from a tax-inclusive price for Alberta (5% GST only). Google Merchant Centre does not require tax-inclusive pricing for Canada in the same way the UK does, but the feed's tax settings must be configured correctly in Merchant Centre to avoid price mismatch between the Shopping ad and checkout.

Walmart Canada Marketplace feed not set up

Walmart Canada Marketplace is a third-party seller platform operated by Walmart Canada. It requires a separate product feed submitted in Walmart's Walmart Canada feed specification, which uses a different attribute set, category taxonomy, and required field structure than Google Shopping. Brands that have only set up a Google Merchant Centre feed for Canada are not present on Walmart Canada Marketplace. The Walmart Canada seller registration process requires a Canadian business number or qualifying import account, and the feed submission is managed through the Walmart Seller Centre portal.

How it works

How we approach a Feed & Merchant Centre engagement for Nepali exporters

  1. 01

    Feed and account audit

    Week 1

We review the current GMC account status (or advise on account creation if one does not exist), audit the existing product feed for disapprovals and attribute gaps, and map the entity structure required to register a compliant account in the target market.

  2. 02

    Feed build and account configuration

    Weeks 2–3

We configure the Merchant Centre account with correct business information, shipping settings, return policy, and website verification. We build the primary feed with correct currency, language, and GTIN/identifier handling, and configure the Shopify export or feed tool integration.

  3. 03

    Supplemental feed and title optimisation

    Week 3–4

We build a supplemental feed to override Shopping titles with query-optimised versions for the target market. We add custom labels for campaign segmentation. We submit the feed and resolve any remaining disapprovals.

  4. 04

Free listings and Shopping campaign integration

    Week 4–5

We enable free product listings and confirm organic Shopping impressions are tracking. We connect the approved feed to Shopping campaigns or Performance Max and configure bid and segmentation settings.

  5. 05

    Ongoing feed management

We monitor feed health, resolve new disapprovals as the product catalogue changes, update shipping and pricing data, and manage seasonal supplemental feed updates.

Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I set up a CAD-currency Google Shopping feed for Canada from a Shopify store?

Shopify generates product feeds in the store's default currency by default. To serve a CAD-currency feed to Google Merchant Centre for Canadian Shopping campaigns, the brand must either use Shopify Markets to set Canada as a separate market with CAD pricing and configure the Google & YouTube channel to export the Canadian market feed, or use a third-party feed tool (DataFeedWatch, Feedonomics, or GoDataFeed) that can pull the CAD price from Shopify's multi-currency pricing and generate a separate feed for submission to a Canadian Google Merchant Centre account. The CAD feed must be submitted to a Merchant Centre account with Canada as the target country.

How do I create a French-language supplemental feed for Quebec Shopping queries?

A supplemental feed for Quebec French is a secondary feed submitted to Google Merchant Centre that overrides specific attributes (title, description, product_type) for Canadian French locale targeting. The supplemental feed uses the same item IDs as the primary feed and submits French-language values for the attributes being overridden. In Merchant Centre, the supplemental feed is linked to the primary feed and the override is applied for Canadian French (fr-CA) language targeting. The French-language titles should be translated from the English primary feed titles, not machine-translated without review: Google Shopping's query matching for French-language queries depends on the quality of the French title.

How do Canadian GST and HST rates affect feed pricing in Google Merchant Centre?

Google Merchant Centre for Canada allows brands to specify whether the prices in the feed are tax-inclusive or tax-exclusive, and to configure tax rates by province. For most Canadian Shopping setups, feed prices are submitted as tax-exclusive (pre-tax), and Google's tax configuration in Merchant Centre specifies the applicable rates by province. This approach allows Google to display the correct tax-inclusive price for buyers in each province without requiring the brand to submit a separate price for each province. The critical requirement is that the Merchant Centre tax settings match the tax rates the brand actually charges at checkout: a mismatch between the Merchant Centre tax configuration and the checkout tax creates a price mismatch that triggers policy issues.

How do I set up a product feed for Walmart Canada Marketplace?

Walmart Canada Marketplace feed submission is managed through the Walmart Supplier Portal and Seller Centre. The brand must first register as a Walmart Canada Marketplace seller, which requires a Canadian business registration (BN) or approved import account. Once approved, product feeds are submitted as category-specific spreadsheet templates or via Walmart's Content API. The feed specification includes Walmart-specific required attributes (Walmart item ID, product group, shelf description) that differ from Google Shopping attributes. A brand that has already built a Google Shopping feed can use the Google feed as the source of truth for product data and generate a separate Walmart-formatted export using a feed management tool or custom mapping.

How do I link a Canadian Google Merchant Centre account to a Performance Max campaign targeting Canada?

A Canadian Google Merchant Centre account is linked to a Google Ads account through the Merchant Centre account settings under "Linked accounts." Once linked, the Google Ads account can create a Performance Max campaign with a product feed goal, selecting the Canadian Merchant Centre account as the product data source. The campaign targeting should be set to Canada, with language targeting including both English and French to capture Quebec traffic. The Performance Max campaign will use the product feed to generate Shopping ads, display ads, and other formats automatically. The feed quality directly affects which products are eligible for Performance Max placements.
